Wall paintings: the
'portrait' gallery

The images above and to the right show fragments that
have been fully conserved by Vadim V. Yagodin in Nukus (Uzbekistan).
Photos of untreated portrait fragments.
The centre and right images belong to a single large fragment, providing
important evidence of the relative location of the portraits.
Each bust portrait was individually framed
with a black line. This fragment shows the interstice of four frames.
From larger fragments we know that there were at least three horizontal tiers
of portraits.
