Current Work

January 2008

As ongoing unrest  in Afghanistan makes fieldwork difficult at present, USCAP is focusing on a publication project. In 2005, with funding from the Joukowsky Foundation, Dr Youssofzay travelled to Kabul and India to gather data for a monograph on Buddhist material once held in the Kabul Museum. This project is being carried out under a Memorandum of Understanding between the National Archaeological Institute of Afghanistan and the University of Sydney. It is hoped that the manuscript of the monograph will be completed by the end of 2008 and submitted to press by early 2009. Much of the  work is based on images held at the American Institute of Indian Studies (http://dsal.uchicago.edu/images/aiis/). Later in 2008, Dr Youssofzay and Associate Professor Betts hope to travel to Kabul to renegotiate the Memorandum and to initiate a new project.
