Dr Abdul Zahir Youssofzay Dr Youssofzay obtained his BA at Kabul University in 1973 and went on to complete his PhD on Buddhist Arts of Afghanistan at Banaras University in India in 1996. From 1983-1991 he was Director General of the Afghan Institute of Archaeology and concurrently a Lecturer in the Department of Archaeology, Kabul University. He is presently a Research Associate with the Department of Archaeology at the University of Sydney. Dr Svend Helms Dr Helms obtained a BA (1965) and an MA (1966) in the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Toronto. In 1976 he completed his PhD on Urban Fortifications of Early Bronze Age Palestine at the Institute of Archaeology, University of London. In addition to a long career of fieldwork in the Near East, he was from 1976-1982 Senior Research Fellow of the Society for Afghan Studies and Director of Excavations at Old Kandahar from 1976-1978. Associate Professor Alison Betts Alison Betts participated in the excavations at Old Kandahar in 1978, working primarily on the Buddhist stupa. She currently lecturers in Middle Eastern and Central Asian archaeology at the University of Sydney and is Director of the University of Sydney Central Asian Programme.
