Professor Vadim N. Yagodin is Director of the Institute of History, Archaeology and Ethnography, Karakalpak branch of the Uzbek Academy of Sciences. He worked with S.P. Tolstov as a member of the Chorasmian Archaeological Expedition. Continuing on from this work, he conducted a number of field seasons on the Ustiurt plateau, investigating nomadic cemeteries, hunting traps and sanctuaries. His team also carried out excavations at two of the frontier fortresses on the edge of the plateau. Professor Yagodin has published extensively on his work, in Russian and in English.
