Wangka Maya Annual Awards

In 2005, the Wangka Maya Committee decided that many people deserved to be recognised for their work on the preservation and use of Pilbara's Aboriginal languages. So the Wangka Maya Annual Language Awards were created.

There are nine categories in the awards and nominations are taken during the months of August and September each year.

To download a nomination form, click the form in the above box 'Award Nomination Form'. Email, fax or post the form to the Manager or Senior Linguist for your nomination to be included. Each nominee will receive a letter informing them they have been nominated and are in the running. Award winners are announced at the Wangka Maya AGM in October each year.

A 'Hall of Fame' category was created to recognise those individuals who have worked for many years on a Pilbara language. Photographs of people recognised in this category are also to be found on the wall at Wangka Maya Language Centre.
