Wangka Maya was very pleased to be able to host a second book launch of Father McKelson's book 'Ngarnana Nyangumarta Karajarrimili Ngurranga: We Nyangumarta in the Country of the Karajarri' last week in Bidyadanga Community. Father made the journey from Perth for the launch and was greeted by many of his old mates for the launch.

Wangka Maya bid farewell to linguist Cassandra Pace from Texas USA this week. Cassandra did a marvellous job working on the Kariyarra language material and her cheerful and hard working ways will be missed. Many thanks to Cassandra for her great work! We look forward to seeing you back!!

Ngambunyjarri Book Launch

Ngambunyjarri was successfully launched in Onslow on the 9th of July. Wangka Maya linguists Eleonora Deak, Cassandra Pace and John Banks and Wangka Maya and Buurabalayji-Thalanyji Association committee representative, Trudy Hayes, attended this momentous event.

Putijarra work in Wiluna

Wangka Maya linguists have worked on the data collection of the Putijarra language for several years and were thrilled to locate another fluent speaker in the town of Wiluna. A film crew and linguist, Sue Hanson and speaker Grace Coppin travelled to Wiluna to record the speaker, Tilly Stevens.

Wangka Maya at Alice Springs

Wangka Maya staff attended a conference in Alice Springs called the 'Pedagogies of Connection: Developing Individual and Community Identities 2008' conference.

Irra Wangga Language Centre from Gerladton and Wangka Maya Language Centres combined to present a stall at the conference. The response was overwhelming with all 3 staff manning the stall during morning tea and lunch breaks as the questions and requests for resources poured in.
