Remote Schools Receive Language Training |

Teaching staff at Wiluna Remote Community School and at Karalundi School near Meekatharra undertook a training session on 'Indigenous Language Awareness' delivered by Wangka Maya's Senior Linguist, Sue Hanson, last week. The session introduced staff to the languages of the area, the sounds in the languages and how to read and write them. Both training sessions went very well and staff enthusiastically learnt about the languages. |

Connecting Up Conference 2008 |
 Hazel, Bruce, Sue and Andrew at the Awards night Wangka Maya staff and the Chairperson, Bruce Thomas, attended a conference in Brisbane called 'Connecting Up 2008'. The conference looked at technologies used in small non-government and not for profit organisations. Wangka Maya staff presented a session on the technologies used in the organisation. |

Governor Michael Visits Wangka Maya |
 Governor Michael with Wangka Maya Crew and Stephen Webster The Governor of WA, His Excellency Dr. Ken Michael, visited Wangka Maya on Tuesday 13th of May. Governor Michael was introduced to staff and Wangka Maya Chairperson, Bruce Thomas by Stephen Webster of Pilbara Development Commission. The Governor received a run-down on Wangka Maya's operations, strategic planning, the language sitaution of the Pilbara and projects and resources. |

Nyangumarta DVD and CD Launch! |
 Bruce, Lorraine and the Fitzroy Crossing Singers at the launch Wangka Maya was very pleased to launch a new DVD and a CD on Wednesday 7th May 2008 of the Fitzroy Crossing women passing on a songline to the Nyangumarta people of the Pilbara. Many Elders attended the launch. A presentation was made to the singers and Lorriane Injie for her work on this project. The DVD is available for $20 and the CD $15 from Wangka Maya. |
