Moko Creek - April 2008

Mt Guouogang through the smoke from the Hazard Reduction Burn

The top of Moko Creek was rather ... inauspicious ...

... but it soon turned beautiful ...

... with extensive rock slabs

Several of the abseils were two-stage, but all were dry

Cascade

Waterfall

Rock slabs were a recurring feature for the length of the creek

Rock pool requiring careful negotiation

We found a couple of dead wallabies, including this fresh one

Final drop in the first section -- before the horrors of the vines

Another rock pool

ANOTHER rock pool

Yet another rock pool, but Jiri stays dry

Larger rock pool -- I guess there were a lot of them

The first hints of late afternoon struck while we still had miles of creek to go ...

... and then light was too low for photography until we were at camp

We got quite a late start on Sunday, but the smoke made it look as though we were up at the crack of dawn

Jiri heads up Thommos Chains to Splendour Rock ...

... where Bec, Cat and Mitch were enjoying the smoke-shrouded views of the southern Blue Mountains ...

... and a headless chocolate rabbit full of port

Spot fires on Bullagowar Ridge (middle) and Queahgong right (right) were still burning on Sunday (Yellow Pup in foreground)
There's also a trip report if you're into that sort of thing.
